Gaussian splats: photoreal worlds from a picture or a video

Turn a picture, several pictures or a video into a Gaussian splat — an object captured with its real light, or a whole world you can fly through in the browser. Then export it as splats, a mesh or a collider.

On paid plans, in early access — request access from the Generate Splat tab.

What you get

An object, or a whole world

Zetta Splat

An object or a single view

Captures what is in one picture — a product, a prop, a place as photographed — with its real light and fine detail. With Object selected it removes the background first, for a clean subject.

Best for: Products, props and single subjects

Zetta Splat 2 and 2.1

A whole world

Builds a space out from your input that you can look around and fly through. Zetta Splat 2.1 is made for larger spaces — big outdoor and indoor areas.

Best for: Rooms, sites, streets and backdrops

Ways in

A picture, several, a video — or just words

The more of a space the input shows, the less the world has to invent. A video observes the most; one picture the least.

  • One picture

The quickest start. Everything out of frame is inferred — the far side of the room is invented rather than observed.

  • Several pictures

Pictures of the same space, each marked with the way it faces — up to eight. Directions you did not photograph can be drawn from the main picture.

  • A video

One slow, steady take walking through the space, up to 100 MB as MP4, MOV or WebM. The most complete world, because the most was observed.

  • A prompt

Describe it. Your words become a picture you check before the splat is made — and the world engines read the prompt as a description of the scene too.

How it works

Four steps to a splat

  1. Choose Object or Environment

Object makes a clean subject on a plain background; Environment makes a place that fills a wide frame.

  2. Pick an engine

Zetta Splat for an object or one view; Zetta Splat 2 for a world; Zetta Splat 2.1 for a large one.

  3. Give it a picture, views or a video

Upload a picture, add the other directions of the space, attach a video — or describe it and approve the picture made from your words.

  4. Look around, then export

Orbit an object or fly through a world in the browser. From Inspect, export splats, a mesh or a collider.

Afterwards

Look around, then take it further

Splats open in the browser: objects orbit, and worlds can be flown through — drag to orbit, right-drag to look, WASD to move. A world is not a dead end; from Inspect it exports three ways.

  • Splats

    PLY

The splat itself, at full size or reduced to 500K, 150K or 100K splats for lighter delivery. Ready in seconds.

  • Mesh

    GLB

A surface built from the world, textured or with vertex colours. An ordinary model: retopology, texturing and the other mesh tools run on it.

  • Collider

    GLB

A simple collision mesh, so a player or a physics engine can stand on the floor and stop at the walls.

What a splat cannot do

  • A splat has no surface. Retopology, texturing, segmentation and rigging do not run on it — export a mesh first.
  • The lighting is baked into the colours, so a splat does not relight like a mesh with materials.
  • From one picture, everything out of frame is inferred. Several pictures or a video show more of the space.
  • Mirrors, glass and moving subjects confuse the reconstruction, as they confuse every reconstruction.
  • Large worlds are large files. Choose the standard version when it opens, or export reduced splats for delivery.

Questions

What people ask about splats

What is a Gaussian splat?

A scene stored as millions of small, soft, coloured blobs instead of triangles. Drawn together they look photographic — fuzz, foliage and sheen included — and they render in real time, in a browser.

Can I make a Gaussian splat from a video?

Yes. With Zetta Splat 2 or 2.1 in Environment mode, attach one slow, steady take of the space, up to 100 MB as MP4, MOV or WebM.

Can I turn a splat into a mesh?

A world exports from Inspect as a mesh (GLB), textured or with vertex colours, and as a collider mesh for physics. The exported mesh is an ordinary model, so the mesh tools run on it.

What file formats do I get?

Zetta Splat delivers a .splat file; worlds are kept as SPZ. A world also exports as PLY splats, a GLB mesh and a GLB collider.

Who can use it?

Gaussian splats come with a paid plan and are in early access. Press Request access on the Generate Splat tab in the 3D Studio and the team switches it on for your account.
