Gaussian splats: photoreal objects and worlds from a picture or a video

Gaussian SplatsGeneration

Turn a picture, several pictures or a video into a Gaussian splat — an object captured with its real light, or a whole world you can fly through in the browser.

What it does

Objects and worlds

Zetta Splat captures an object or a place as pictured. Zetta Splat 2 and 2.1 build a whole world out from it, to look around and move through.

From a picture, several, or a video

Worlds take one picture, several pictures of the same space marked with the way each faces, or a video walking through it. A prompt becomes a picture you check first.

Photographic by nature

A splat keeps fuzz, foliage, fabric and sheen that a mesh would need enormous detail to fake — light and fine detail as they were.

A mesh when you need one

Export a world as splats (PLY), as a textured mesh (GLB) or as a collider mesh for physics. The exported mesh opens in every mesh tool.

How it works

  1. Choose Object or EnvironmentObject makes a clean subject on a plain background; Environment makes a place that fills a wide frame.
  2. Pick an engineZetta Splat for an object or a single view; Zetta Splat 2 for a world; Zetta Splat 2.1 for a large one.
  3. Give it a picture, views or a videoUpload one, add the other directions of the space, attach a video — or describe it and approve the picture made from your words.
  4. Look around, then exportOrbit an object, or fly through a world with WASD, in the browser. Export splats, a mesh or a collider from Inspect.

What people use it for

  • Walkthroughs and backdrops of real places
  • Digital-twin views of a site, opened from a link
  • Product turntables where texture and sheen matter
  • Environments behind interactive mesh objects in a game or a scene
  • Subjects meshes struggle with — plants, hair, cloth, clutter

What it cannot do

  • A splat has no surface: retopology, texturing, segmentation and rigging do not run on it — export a mesh first
  • The lighting is baked in, so a splat does not relight like a mesh with materials
  • From one picture, everything out of frame is inferred. Several pictures or a video show more of the space
  • Mirrors, glass and moving subjects confuse the reconstruction
  • Paid plans only, and in early access — request access from the Generate Splat tab

Common questions

What is a Gaussian splat?

A scene stored as millions of small, soft, coloured blobs instead of triangles. Drawn together they look photographic, and they render in real time — in a browser, on a phone, in VR.

Gaussian splatting, explained

Can I make a splat from a video?

Yes, with Zetta Splat 2 or 2.1 in Environment mode: one slow, steady take of the space, up to 100 MB as MP4, MOV or WebM.

Filming a video for a splat

Can I turn a splat into a mesh?

A world can be exported as a mesh (GLB), textured or with vertex colours, and as a collider mesh for physics. The mesh is an ordinary model, so the Studio’s mesh tools run on it.
